Mr. and Mrs. Donald and Virginia Ditzler of Savoy, IL will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on May 1st. They were married in Champaign, IL on May 1, 1949 and have spent 70 years supporting one another through turbulent and peaceful times. They are part of the Greatest Generation. Donald served his country in Guam, in Korea during the Koren Conflict, The National Guard and Reserves and retired from the Army in 1988 after 43 years. He worked as a machinist for the University of Illinois until his retirement in 1986. Virginia worked at Savoy Elementary school, was a Scout leader, volunteered at her church, her children's schools, and cared for many children over the years. The couple has three children: Douglas Ditzler of Orlando, FL; Denise Ditzler Bender of Denver, CO; and Diane Ditzler of Savoy, IL. They also have 5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. They are part of the faith community of Calvary Baptist Church in Monticello, IL. In lieu of gifts, the couple requests donations be sent to their church at 738 W. Bridge St., Monticello, IL 61856. Donald and Virginia will celebrate quietly at their home.
